Real life Tarzan - DeWet du Toit

Real-life Tarzan DeWet du Toit hopes he will be spotted by Hollywood scouts. The farmer's son, who lives with his parents Ludolf, and Ida, both 53, and twin brother Rudolph, in George, South Africa, spends nights alone in the bush without any creature comforts. He said: "I make a platform in a tree to keep away from prowling leopards and snakes on the ground. It does get lonely - I would love to find a Jane to help me pass the time."

DeWet Du Toit, a former South African security guard has turned himself into a real-life Tarzan in a bid to star in a film about the jungle hero. The 24-year-old unemployed bodybuilder became obsessed by the legend of Tarzan while living in Namibia as a young boy, where his father was a collector of Tarzan books and comics. DeWet now hopes he will be spotted by Hollywood scouts looking for a new leading man to play Tarzan.

He even slid over the Movieline transom on 2009, introducing a "HIGHLY SELF MOTIVATED 22−YEAR OLD BODYBUILDER / ACTOR" who believes he has what it takes to earn the lead role in Stephen Sommers' forthcoming Tarzan adaptation. Everything, that is, but entrée into Hollywood and discriminating use of his computer's "caps lock" key. "I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH THE CONTACT DETAILS OF THIS PRODUCTION [...] I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE WILL TO WIN IS MORE CRUCIAL THAN THE SKILL TO WIN."

In 2006 DeWet and his twin travelled to the UK where he worked as a security guard and delivery driver for one year. But for now DeWet has his sights set on being the star of the next Hollywood Tarzan movie. He said: "I started training in 2007 and since then I have made big strides. Recently I was in contact with some guys from the USA about going over to a Tarzan convention. Everyone round here is talking about it. People are very excited - they didn't think I was going to make it."

He said: "I'm like Tarzan in so many ways. My best friend is an elephant called Shaka, and I spend more time with monkeys, zebras and crocodiles than I do with people. People might say I'm crazy, but I know this is what I was born to do."

Single DeWet admits he gets a lot of attention from the ladies for his body. However, he is still waiting to find the right girl who he can introduce to his animal pals. He said: "I'm not the kind of guy who loves partying, I certainly never get drunk. I prefer to eat the fruits and berries that I find in the bush. I also know what insects to eat. It would take a special kind of girl that could join me in the jungle."
